Important Notice: 1080 Fox Baiting Program – Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park
By Kay Hisano | Dated February 17, 2026
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an ongoing 1080 pest management program in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park from 1 February to 31 July 2026.
The program involves the use of manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) containing 1080 poison (sodium fluoroacetate) for fox control. This initiative is aimed at protecting vulnerable native wildlife species within the park.
All baiting locations will be clearly identified with signage. Members of the public are reminded not to touch any baits or ejector devices, as penalties apply for interference.
Pet Safety Reminder
Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. 1080 is highly toxic and can be lethal to dogs and cats. Pets and working dogs must not enter baiting areas and should be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity of these locations.
Signs of 1080 Poisoning in Dogs
Clinical signs can develop rapidly and may include agitation or abnormal behaviour, vomiting, increased urination and defecation, difficulty breathing, seizures, or collapse.
If you suspect your pet has been exposed to 1080, seek immediate veterinary attention. Prompt treatment is critical.
