Joey’s Pet of the Week – Milo’s Mischief

Hey everyone! How are you all? We’ve been super busy with ticks this week. SUPER busy. And you all know how much I hate ticks. But you’re all applying tick prevention to your 4legged friends though, aren’t you? I hope so. While none of the preventatives will give your pet 100% protection, it is certainly their best chance of surviving tick paralysis. If you find a tick on your pet or think they may be suffering from tick paralysis, either call us or bring them in straight away. The sooner we start treatment the better their chances. Ever wondered what you should do if your pet gets sick outside of normal clinic hours? Call our regular number and listen to the answering machine for instructions. GVH is a 24 hour Vet, so Monday to Friday, if your pet needs help, you can bring them in for Dr David Owen to look after. On Saturday and Sunday nights, take them to our friends at the 24 hour Vet at Forestville. Dr David Owen isn’t usually on call on these nights as he works during the day on Sunday.

It’s meant to be pretty hot again for the next few days, so make sure you are taking extra special care of your friends. Leave out an extra bowl of water, make sure we have access to plenty of shade, and where possible, leave us inside where it’s cool. This is especially important for little critters like bunnies, guinea pigs and birds. These guys tend to suffer the most from these hot days. Heat stress can be fatal son if you think your pet is suffering from heat stress, bring them straight in.

We had an unusual visitor on Sunday. A lovely member of the public brought us in a turtle! Then cheeky thing was exploring somewhere he shouldn’t of been exploring, so they dropped him in to have a quick check over. He was perfectly healthy so Nurse Emma got to let him go in a more turtle appropriate environment.

My star this week is the very handsome Milo, an 8month old Ragdoll. Milo though he might try an all natural diet and start catching his own fish. Unfortunately, he got the fish hook stuck in his paw! The hook was stuck in there firmly, so Dr Genevieve Zhang had to heavily sedate Milo to remove the hook. Milo was given an injection of antibiotics and pain relief after and he had to go home with then cone of shame, or and ecollar so he wouldn’t chew out his stitches. Milo has decided that he’s going to stick to tinned fish in the future!
