Saturday 8am – 4pm

Please allow 10- 15 minutes for boarding admission at reception, as the receptionist or nurse will need to ask you various questions about your pet before admitting them. If you wish to save time, you are welcome to request a Boarding Admission Form to be emailed to you. Please bring it with you on the day for our reference.
General Conditions:
- All boarders must have a current vaccination. Dogs must have a current C5 vaccination and cats must have a current F3 vaccination at minimum. Vaccines are valid for 12 months. Clients who have their pets vaccinated at a vet other than Gordon Vet must provide a valid and current certificate of vaccination upon arrival. Boarders that are not vaccinated will be vaccinated upon arrival at the expense of the owner.
- All boarders must have received a veterinary grade flea and tick treatment (liquid top-spot such as Revolution Plus® or Bravecto® tablet such as Nexgard® or Bravecto® or a Seresto collar®) within a fortnight of their boarding. Gordon Vet does not consider supermarket flea collars or flea shampoos adequate flea control for boarders. Boarders that have not had adequate flea control or are found to have evidence of fleas throughout their stay in boarding will be given a flea treatment at the expense of the owner, regardless of flea treatment given at home prior to their stay.
- All boarders must have received a veterinary grade intestinal all-wormer (Drontal®, Milbemax®, Milpro®) within three months of their boarding. The worming treatment must cover roundworm, whipworm, hookworm and tapeworm. Please refer to wormer packaging to determine whether the product covers all four worms. Please note most liquid top-spot wormers (Revolution®, Advocate®) DO NOT cover tapeworm. Boarders who have not received adequate worming control will have a worming or are found to have evidence of intestinal worms throughout their stay will be given a worming treatment at the expense of the owner, regardless of worming treatment given at home prior to their stay.
- Boarders are fed Hills’ Science Diet® dry food, with a small amount of Whiskas® wet cat food/My Dog® wet dog food during their stay. You may choose, if you prefer, for your boarder to eat dry or wet food only rather than a mixture. Boarders that require to be fed a particular diet, or whose owners wish for their pet to remain on the food they are fed at home, must provide their own food. If the food is not provided, and we have the food available in our store room, it will be charged to the boarding account. The remainder of the food will be sent home with the pet at the end of their stay.
- Clients are asked to provide contact details, ideally a mobile phone number. If you are unlikely to be contactable by phone, we require an email address or a secondary contact. A secondary contact must be familiar with your pet and authorised to make decisions regarding their care in case of illness. If a boarder is found to be unwell whilst in our care, every attempt will be made to contact you or your nominated contact. If contact is unable to be made, the veterinarian will make decisions regarding your pet’s care in the interest of their wellbeing. The costs of these interventions will be charged to the boarding account.
- We discourage any items or belongings being left with your pet whilst in boarding including leads, collars, cat carriers, blankets and toys. Our kennel area is stocked with these items for use whilst caring for your pet. Gordon Vet accepts no responsibility for any belongings left behind.
- Boarders that require medication are very welcome to board at Gordon Vet, including diabetic animals requiring insulin injections. Please see Costs of Boarding in regards to medication administration fees.
Cat Boarding:
- Cats must be transported into the clinic in a cat carrier. This is to ensure your cat’s safety from other animals and the environment (e.g. cars in the car park, dogs in the waiting room) as well as ensuring the safety of other animals and clients in the waiting room. The carrier will be returned to you once your cat has been admitted.
- Cats are boarded separately to dogs to reduce stress levels.
- Gabapentin use for boarding:While we do our best to provide an enriched, comfortable and safe environment for cats, a change to some cat’s normal routine and/or environment can be quite a stressful event. In these instances we have found the drug gabapentin works extremely well if your cat is showing signs of stress during their stay at Gordon Vet Hospital.Gabapentin is a prescription medication that is commonly used to help alleviate anxiety and stress in cats. It works by blocking certain neurotransmitters in the brain, which can help calm cats and make them feel more relaxed. There are very few side effects of using this medication. These include drowsiness and loss of coordination, both of which are reversible on discontinuing gabapentin.Standard medication costs apply if one of our veterinary team determines the use of gabapentin should be started.
Dog Boarding:
- We only accept dogs over 10 years of age and under 15kg body weight and dogs requiring regular medication.
- As our main priority is to ensure our hospital patients recover in a quiet and calm environment, we do ensure the dogs we board are suited to maintaining this environment. On this basis we may deem dogs inappropriate for boarding.
- We have limited space for dog boarding so please provide as much notice as possible.
Costs of Boarding:
