Dogs are naturally inquisitive creatures, and are often keen to nudge and prod insects that happen in their path. Unfortunately, insects generally aren’t all that keen for the attention.
Bees, wasps, ants and spiders will all lash out, and usually sting the part of the dog’s body that is closest to hand (or stinger), most frequently stinging the dog’s nose, tongue or paw. Some dogs will present to us with intense pain and irritation in their paw, or more commonly with facial swelling that can be rather dramatic, as in the photo. Whilst most dogs fortunately only experience the facial swelling, occasionally more severe allergic reactions can result in hives, difficulty breathing, vomiting or collapse. Quick treatment will not only make your pet more comfortable, but is essential if they are having a severe allergic reaction. If your pet is having difficulty breathing please phone first if possible to let us know that you are on your way, so that we can be ready for you when you arrive.

These include Chloe the dog, Obi and Leia the cats, Little Cocky the galah and Rosie the very tame eclectus parrot who all happily coexist at her house. In her spare time, Helen likes to be active outdoors, running, kayaking, camping or playing any manner of sport with her children.
