Hot off the Press!
Does your dog’s lick, lick, licking and scratch, scratch, scratching keep you up at night? Are they chewing themselves raw?
Gordon Vets John, Sam and Helen recently attended the launch of an exciting new class of medication which promises to help itchy dogs. The new tablet blocks of one of the main chemical messengers which is involved in allergies, inflammation and itchiness. It is a targeted treatment which has been used in the US for several years. It is fast acting and has very few side effects, being well tolerated in most dogs who have used it. We have several patients who have already made the switch, and staff dogs are lining up to use it too. I must say, we’re excited about seeing them less itchy!
Of course, although it is proving to be a very helpful tool in our armoury, it is not a panacea, and it is important that we do check your dog for the cause of its itchiness and for secondary infection. If your dog is over one year of age and is driving itself (and you) crazy with its scratching, licking and chewing, please make an appointment to come in and see us. Hopefully we’ll be able to settle the itchiness down quickly, and give both of you some rest!
