Hey everyone! How are you all?? Sorry for not posting this earlier. I had it all ready to go and then I had a visit from Nurse Hollie and Baby Rylee!! It was so great to see them. Nurse Hollie looks fantastic and Baby Rylee is as cute as a button.
This week my star is the gorgeous Miss Winnie, an 11month old Shih Tzu from Lindfield. Winnie came in to see Dr David Loneragan after she ate a sock. Tasty, right?!? Winnie was admitted for vomiting to be induced to see if we could get the sock out.
Winnie managed a rather large vomit but it was sadly sock free. Dr David was worried that even though Winnie had eaten a small kids sock, she was only a small dog that it wasn’t going to pass through without help.
Winnie was given a general anaesthetic and Dr David performed an ultrasound to check the position of the sock. The sock was still in the stomach so Dr David passed the endoscope, a small tube that is inserted through the mouth so we can see inside the stomach. Once the sock was visualise, small grabbers were inserted and Dr David was able to remove the sock without Winnie needing surgery. And the even better news was that the sock came out in one piece!
We kept Winnie in for the night, just as a precaution, but apart from a slightly tender tummy, she was a bright little lady the next day. Winnie has promised to (try to) not eat socks again.
Well, better go. Enjoy the rest of your week and I’ll catch you all again soon. Meows for now, love Joey xoxo
