Hey gang! How are you all? It’s been a big week of tick cases at GVH. That’s right, the ticks have started. If you haven’t started your pet on their tick prevention, it’s time to start. If you are unsure of the best product to use, just give us a call.
As you know, my good friend Gir had some major surgery recently. She is recovering nicely and gets to spend her days at GVH as part of her post op care. I’m really enjoying having her here. I’m especially loving that she doesn’t have to spend the entire day in the play pen. It means her food bowl is much easier to get too!!
While she may not make the list of weird things animals have eaten, my star this week would certainly win an award for being an amazing sock thief! Sammie, an almost 9year of Golden Retriever had to two socks surgically removed back in July. This was unfortunately not the first time Sammi had eaten something that needed to be removed. Sammi has a LONG history of eating socks and tea towels! Sammi’s owners are very good at keeping Sammi’s favourite things to eat out of her reach, but Sammi is very good at tracking them down and has even been known to eat strangers socks at the dog park!
Sammi was recovering nicely from her surgical sock removal in July when her Mum brought her in 3weeks later because Sammi had eaten a pair of sports socks! Sammi had only just eaten the socks, so we were very hopeful that we would be able to make Sammi vomit up the sock. Sammi has given an injection to induce vomiting, and sure enough, up came sock!! Unfortunately there was no sign of the smaller sock, but Sammi’s owners were happy to closely monitor her at home for signs of the missing sock passing through. I would like to say that this will be the last time Sammi eats something she shouldn’t, but given her history, I don’t think it will be!!
Well, better go. Have a great weekend, start your pet on tick prevention and I’ll catch you all next week. Meows for now, love Joey xoxo
