Hazel’s weekend adrenaline rush

The incredible Hazel might just be the luckiest dog in Australia!
On a Saturday stroll with her owner, Hazel came across a 4m high cliff. Much to her owner’s dismay, Hazel’s curiosity took over and she jumped! It came as a shock to her that the grass below was much further away than she thought.
Hazel was rushed to in to Gordon Vet Hospital for a checkup where we were ready and waiting – expecting some serious injuries, maybe a broken bone or two.
Miraculously, no major injuries were found on physical exam – not even a scratch! An emergency ultrasound was also performed on her belly and chest which cleared her of any internal bleeding. After staying in for an afternoon for observation, Hazel was sent home that night with no more than some minor strains and sprains.
This is not the first time Hazel has defied the odds. As a puppy, Hazel survived a potentially fatal parasitic infection called rat lungworm (Angiostrongylus cantonensis). This parasite is picked up from ingestion of slugs or snails. It invades the nervous system, causing inflammation that can result in paralysis and death.
Thankfully, Hazel is going well at home with her loving family. W e all hope she tries to avoid any more trouble in the future!
