Keep your pet comfortable this Winter
By John Morgan | Dated May 12, 2025
Can you believe it’s almost Winter? With the weather cooling down, this can be a difficult time of year for some of our older patients as their arthritis flares […]
From 14th May – 31st August 2025 Gordon Vet Hospital is offering free dental health checks and 20% off all dental procedures. It’s the perfect opportunity to make sure your pet is in great dental health.
Our dental promotion includes all dental treatments and surgeries, including teeth cleaning (scale and polish), tooth removal/extractions, and other advanced dental procedures. Please speak with our team if you have any questions about available dental treatments.
Dental disease is a silent killer. Left untreated it has been shown to increase the risk of heart disease, kidney disease and liver disease. It also causes our beloved furry friends significant pain that they may not be showing us obvious signs of. You can sometimes identify dental disease by bad breath, rubbing at the face or avoiding certain sides of the mouth while chewing food but a vet will be able to identify more subtle signs.
Your pet’s breath is a good clue. Smelly breath can be a sign of bacterial infection. You may also see gingivitis (red, inflamed gums) and tartar (brown/grey staining on teeth). As dental disease becomes more advanced, the gums and bone can be erode away and the teeth can become wobbly. Dogs that like to chew hard objects can also fracture their teeth and cats can get resorptive lesions (holes) in their teeth.
All dental procedures are carried out under a general anaesthetic so your pet completely free from pain or discomfort. We minimise any postoperative discomfort by using an integrated pain management approach, which includes preoperative pain medication, local anaesthetic nerve blocks (just like human dentists!) and, if required, pain medication to take home after the operation.
The majority of pets will be eating comfortably within several hours of recovery. In fact, many patients that had been experiencing dental pain prior to a procedure rapidly feel much more comfortable once they have received appropriate treatment.
At Gordon Vet Hospital we take dental disease very seriously which is why we are offering FREE DENTAL CHECKS from 12th May 2025 and 20% off any dental procedure for your dog and cat. Offer ends 31st August 2025.
