Young Stanley’s family were having a productive weekend. Spring was approaching and they were getting in early. The garage was being cleared out of all those bits and pieces that accumulate over time, with nowhere else to go. Such as old fish hooks. Three of them. With fishing line attached.
Now the fish hooks had been placed well out of an ordinary dog’s reach, but unfortunately not out of Super Stanley’s. In a burst of excitement and adventure, Stanley the 6 month old long haired Weimaraner, had achieved superdog feats and snared himself all three fish hooks.
The poor fellow had one three pronged hook stuck in his lip, one in his nose, and another in his front leg, all intertwined with the fishing line. He tried to free himself, but the more he struggled, the more twisted and tangled he became. Now Stanley is one tough dog, and it sure distressed his family watching more than it distressed him. With the help of a lovely neighbor, they cut the fishing line and wrapped him up in a blanket and brought him straight to us.
So Stanley wandered into the clinic, happy to see us, fish hooks hanging out of his new lip and nose piercings, wondering what all the fuss was about. A short time later he was asleep under an anaesthetic, and the fish hooks were cut with the bolt cutters and removed. Later that afternoon, Stanley bounded onto his mum’s lap feeling bright and happy, with his appetite for adventure diminished. We hope!
