Gordon Vet’s pet of the week this week is Luna, the Sock Fairy.

Have you ever wondered where all those missing socks end up? You know the ones. They’re the other half of the lonely single socks that are filling up draws around the world. Well Luna had the answer for her family when she came into Gordon Vet.

Luna’s family were worried about her, and rightly so. At just 12 weeks old, Luna was not the bright, bouncy Retriever pup that she should have been. She was quiet, withdrawn and a little depressed and had also been vomiting and losing weight.

After a thorough check over by the Vet, Luna was admitted to hospital and underwent an abdominal ultrasound with Dr David. A shadow was seen in the intestines which usually points to a foreign body. Luna underwent some blood tests and it was decided that the best thing was to remove whatever was obstructing Lunas stomach and intestines.

Dr John performed the surgery, and after making a small incision in the stomach, he pulled out a very long sock. For those of you with strong stomachs, you can watch the video of the sock being removed below. Luna has all but recovered from her surgery. She gaining weight and is back to her normal bouncy self. It has no doubt been challenging keeping little Luna quiet while she recovers, but her family are doing a wonderful job.
