TPLO Surgery at GVH

Have you heard of an ACL injury in humans? Well, just like humans, dogs can get a similar injury called a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injury.
Common causes for this injury in dogs include trauma, overuse, obesity, genetics, and age. As the CCL plays a major role in keeping the knee joint stable and prevent excessive movement, repairing this injury is a crucial step in restoring dogs back to their jolly, energetic selves. There are several common surgical procedures that can be performed, including De Angelis, TTA and TPLO.
Now for the exciting news! After attending hours of seminars and receiving training with a specialist surgeon, our very own Dr. John has started performing TPLO surgeries on his own at Gordon Veterinary Hospital. This procedure is a common treatment option for CCL injuries as it is considered a more stable and effective than traditional surgical techniques. TPLO is known for providing a rapid return to normal activity and reducing pain and discomfort in the affected leg.
Just like with any other orthopaedic surgery, rest and recovery is critical, and follow-up appointments will help monitor your dog’s progress and ensure that the procedure was successful.
If your dog is experiencing joint pain, limping or you simply want to talk to John about this amazing procedure, book in a consultation with us. We will start with a thorough physical examination to begin your pet’s journey to recovery.
Here is a picture of sweet Mr. Winston one day after his TPLO surgery. This is after the repair of his second leg. Unfortunately, this condition will often affect both back legs. Patients will usually be placed on an IV drip overnight with pain relief and be discharged as early as the following day. We are all excited to monitor Winston’s recovery closely and can’t wait for him to start getting back to his normal day to day routine.
