Hey gang! How are you all? We’re all keeping busy at GVH, we’ve had a heap of tick cases. You’ll be sick of me saying this, but PLEASE make sure you are applying tick prevention to your 4legged friend AND are checking for ticks EVERY DAY.
I’m pretty excited about tomorrow. Not only is it Vet Nurse Day when I take the time to make some of my fave humans feel extra special and loves, we also find out if Nurse Hollie has won Vet Nurse of the Year!! I don’t want to jinx her, but I’m super confidant she is going to win! Good luck Nurse Hollie! Whatever the outcome tomorrow, you’re a winner in my eyes.
Today I get to introduce you to the newest member of the GVH team and someone who already thinks I’m pretty awesome. Ladies and Gentleman, I would like to introduce you to Dr Genevieve Zhang, who started with us in August of this year. Dr Gen studied at Sydney University and graduated in 2009. After graduation she worked at a Vet in Willoughby for almost 4 years and then completed a 12month internship with the Small Animal Referral Hospital, SASH, where Dr Gen trained in surgery, medicine, ophthalmology and oncology which helped her to refine her knowledge to be practicing up-to-date and gold standard veterinary medicine. Dr Gen loves that being a Vet means she gets to build a relationship with both the pet and their owner through the process of diagnosing and treating them. Dr Gen says the best part of her job is seeing how that by doing her job well, she is able to make a difference to both owners and their pets by getting and keeping them healthy so they can continue to be much loved members of the family. Unfortunately, being a Vet also means seeing the circle of life from birth to death, and this is easily the worst part of the job according to Dr Gen. It’s always hard seeing an animal that is too sick to be cured, even with the best medical attention, and then having to say good bye to them.
Dr Gen has a post graduate certificate in surgery and also recently passed her exams to become a member in the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, specifically in the area of surgery.
Dr Gen knew from the age of 7 that she wanted to be a Vet when her favourite thing to do was to spend time with her dogs. In high school, Dr Gen loved biology and the sciences helped steer her towards a career in Veterinary Medicine. Dr Gen’s first pet was a German Shepherd called Hobo who she describes as a much loved gentle giant. Today, she is the proud Mum of a 2year old black moggy cat, called Peanut, who she adopted as a 6week old stray, who is constantly hyperactive and entertaining. I think Peanut and I would get on very well! And a fun fact about Dr Gen, she speaks conversational Mandarin! I’m hoping she will teach me how to ask for dinner in Mandarin!!
