Local Anaesthesia

To enhance the comfort and recovery of our patients through a TPLO (Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy) surgery to treat for cranial cruciate ligament rupture, we have begun incorporating local anaesthetic nerve blocks into our surgical procedures.
A few weeks ago, we had the privilege of participating in a workshop led by Anaesthetist Dr. Scott Cumming. The session provided valuable hands-on training in two types of local blocks used during TPLO surgeries. Dr. Scott demonstrated the use of the Ultrasound to precisely target the nerves involved, thereby improving the effectiveness of pain management during the procedure.
Not long after the workshop, our surgical nurse, Alicia, has quickly mastered these techniques and has already started applying them in TPLO surgeries alongside Dr. John. We are hoping to use this technique as a step toward minimizing pain and enhancing the recovery experience for our patients.
