Heya peeps!! How has your week been? Nurse Layne has been away this week, so I have been extra busy doing all of her jobs. Clearly no one reads my weekly posts about how I’m a very busy Pymble Vet clinic cat. The last thing I needed was extra jobs. It’s really cut into my nap time.
Anyways, as I said on Tuesday, today I’m profiling a very special member of the GVH team. He has the very important job of working the Sunday and Public Holiday shifts as well as being our on call duty Vet Monday to Friday. On top of being a fantastic Vet he is also a great person who regularly shares his lunch me. Dr David Owen started at GVH in 1981, making him the longest standing member of the GVH family! Dr David has been looking after our Sunday and after hours shifts ever since he started. This means he has a fantastic knowledge of emergency medicine and is exceptionally experienced in critical care and trauma management in both dogs and cats. Because he spends a lot of his time working without the help of our amazing Nurses, Dr David can do just about everything on his own. Just about all of the Nurses have an amazing Dr David story about him doing things that would normally take multiple pairs of hands to do. Like the time Dr David put in a catheter, administered the anaesthetic, put in the breathing tube and started the procedure on a 60kg dog in the time it took Nurse Katrina to fill in the consent form for the procedure! Oh, did I mention that he also lifted the 60kg dog onto the table? On his own! Like I said, he’s an amazing man!!
When he’s not at work with me, you will usually find Dr David on the golf course. He has an impressive handicap. When not on the golf course, Dr David is at home tending to the needs of his cat, Ranjee. Ranjee is an 11year old Burmese whom Dr David adopted after Ranjee’s original owner passed away.
So, if you are ever at GVH on Sundays or if you need help with your pet after hours, you’ll have the pleasure of seeing Dr David. I’d better go. I still have a few more of Nurse Layne’s jobs to finish before dinner time. Meows for now, love Joey xoxo
