Hey everyone! Happy first day of Summer!! I’m super keen for the warm weather. Sun baking and lizard catching, I mean lizard watching, are my two fave activities. Oh, and eating. Have you booked in for your Santa Paws photo yet? If you haven’t better hurry. We still have a few spots left so give my lovely Reception Nurses a call to secure your spot. I am super excited about getting some face time with the man in red. I have been an extra good kitty this year, so I’m sure to get everything on my list.
My star this week is the handsome Monty, a 14month old Spoodle from Pymble. Monty came in and saw Dr Matt Leong, who has been doing some locum work with us, with a sore paw. Monty’s humans had been away for 4 weeks and Monty had enjoyed a lovely stay on a farm near Tamworth. Monty’s Mum removed a bur from between his toes and that seemed to upset Monty. He was quite bothered by his paw and was licking it a lot. When Dr Matt examined Monty’s left front foot, it was quite red and swollen. Monty also had a lot of burs and grass seeds in his coat. Dr Matt admitted Monty so he could sedate him and give his sore foot a shave and a good clean.
Dr Matt, Nurse Nicole and Vet Student Adam clipped and cleaned all four of Monty’s feet. His ears were thoroughly checked, grass seeds are clever and can migrate down ear canals, and his coat was given a good going over. Dr Matt, Nurse Nicole & Vet Student Adam removed around 50 burs and grass seeds from Monty’s coat!! Approximately 5 have fully penetrated his skin, around 15 had partially penetrated, and the remainder were just sitting in his coat waiting to migrate further in! Dr Matt sent Monty home with some cortisone to help with the swelling and some antibiotics.
Well, I’m off. I need to keep practicing my smile for Santa on Saturday. Meows for now, love Joey xox
