Joey’s Pet of the Week – Kiiro’s Kunumdrum
By Scott Lackenby | Dated January 15, 2015
Hey peeps! When they asked me if I was all sorted to post my Pet of the Week today, I told them I don’t do that until Thursdays. And then I realized it WAS Thursday! Where has the week gone?!? Luckily I was super organized so it didn’t matter!
I sound like a very whingy Pymble Vet clinic cat, but I’ve been SO busy! While I love having a cattery full of cat boarding, I will be a little bit happy when everyone goes home so I can have a little rest!
My star this week is the cheeky Kiiro, a 2year old Burmese. Kiiro was brought in by his Mum, who is also a Vet, after he had been vomiting and off his food for two days. Kiiro has a cheeky habit of eating hair and had also eaten the moisture absorber out of a tray of chicken. Dr Helen Burns had a feel of Kiiro’s tummy but he was so sore that she was unable to have a good feel. Dr Helen discussed the options with Kiiro’s Mum and they decided that given he had eaten the moisture absorber, that they should probably do some cat surgery and remove the foreign body from Kiiro’s tummy. The surgery went well and Dr Helen was able to remove the moisture absorber. Luckily there was no major damage to Kiiro’s intestines. Kiiro recovered well from the surgery and once he had eaten and poo’d he’d be fine to go home. But this posed a slight problem for Kiiro’s Mum. You see, she was going away for Christmas and Nurse Hollie was going to be cat sitting. Kiiro isn’t the only Feline at home and Kiiro’s Mum was worried that it may be too tricky for Nurse Hollie to closely monitor Kiiro AND look after the other cats AND come to work and play with me. So Kiiro got to spend a few extra days in with us so I could keep an eye on him. The moisture absorbers out of meat trays are particularly tempting to dogs and cats, so be sure to dispose of them as soon as you take the meat out of the tray. They are covered in delicious meat juices so we don’t realise that they are actually inedible plastic.
Well, I’m off to enjoy some more of this glorious sunshine. Meows for now, love Joey xoxo
