Joey’s Pet of the Week – Great Grapes! Max’s Mischief
By Scott Lackenby | Dated September 25, 2014
Helloooo!! How exciting is it that we have 500 likes on Facebook?!? I’m pretty sure at least 490 of those likes are because of my amazing Pet of the Week stories…. Thank you to you all for liking, reading and sharing what we do on here. It makes us feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside!!Well it’s been a busy week for us. School holidays is always a busy time here at GVH. There are lots of boarding kitty cats, which means I’m extra busy. We have also had a heap of tick cases in, which makes everyone busy. I know I say this a lot, but I hate tick season. And not just because it means I have to have a Frontline spray every 3weeks. They are just such nasty little critters who make my furry friends so terribly sick. PLEASE, if you haven’t already started your tick prevention, be sure to start now! A few of my humans are also on holidays. Dr Helen Burns has taken some time off to spend with her kids for the school holidays and Nurse Laura is having a delightful time relaxing in Bali. Nurse Laura has been sharing some pretty amazing pics on social media, which makes me a little jealous that I’m stuck at a Pymble vet hospital. Lucky I love my job and my humans, otherwise I’d go on holidays too! I almost had a not to nice holiday on Friday night. You know how I love to go next door to visit my friends at SNAP Printing? Well, they didn’t realise that I was snoozing in the office and the locked up and went home without me!! Dr Scott and Nurse Amy had to call my friend Cheryl so they could get the alarm code to bust me out! Cheryl will now be checking for me before she locks up!!
This weekend Nurse Hollie has her Hen’s party and I’m a little upset because she didn’t invite me. I’m not sure what a Hen’s party is, but I love chicken, so I’m sure I would love a party about Hens. Hopefully someone will bring me back some cake or something tasty seeings how I didn’t get any of Nurse Nicole’s birthday cake yesterday. Apparently cake isn’t on my diet. Stupid diet!!
My star this week is the cheeky Max, an almost 2year old Boxer cross. Max came in to see Dr Scott Lackenby after his humans were pretty sure he had eaten around 1/2 kg of grapes. Now, as some of you know, grapes are toxic to dogs. They cause sudden and irreversible kidney damage, which can be fatal. The problem was, Max’s humans weren’t sure how many grapes he had eaten or when he ate them as the grapes were left out overnight and Max helped himself! Dr Scott decided we had better make Max vomit to see if we could get him to cough up any of the grapes and also took some blood to test his kidney parameters. Max had a HUGE vomit that had a good amount of grapes in it and luckily his blood test was normal. Max will be back in today to recheck his bloods, and if they are ok, Max should be out of the woods. It’s not just grapes you need to keep out of reach of us, but also sultanas and raisons. If like Max, your cheeky furry friend eats any of these, be sure to call us or bring them in straight away. The sooner they cough them up the better!!
Well, I had better go. There’s boarders I need to play with! Have a great weekend and I will see you all next week. Meows for now, love Joey xoxo
