Tick season is well and truly underway.

The animals pictured below are just some of the pets that were admitted to Gordon Vet hospital over the past few days as a result of tick paralysis. Tick paralysis treatment is very involved and normally requires the animal to stay in hospital for several days.
Please make sure that your pets are up to date with their tick prevention and remember that NOT all products that protect against fleas protect against ticks. All tick prevention products are slightly different, some need to be given or applied fortnightly, every three weeks or monthly and even 3 monthly. Make sure to read the product label thoroughly to ensure you are using it correctly. If you are unsure what products are suitable, please give Gordon Vet a call on 9498 3000.
Faith is only 7 months old, and was taken to NEVS for tick poisoning, and later transferred to Gordon Vet. She was unable to walk for several days, but gradually regained her strength.
Polly’s family found 5 paralysis ticks on her.
She ended up staying in hospital for 6 days.
Pixie may look a little comical with her tongue hanging out, however this has happened due to laryngeal paralysis. She was on hospital for over a week and unable to eat or drink due to not being able to swallow.
