Your Puppy’s First Vet Check
Regular vet checks for your puppy are crucial for their long-term health and growth, but their first visit is even more important. We know that your first time visiting the vet can be stressful for both you and your puppy, so we’ve taken steps to make it better for everyone involved.
Our entire team are committed to providing a low-stress environment for puppies and people. From the first time you speak with our reception team you’ll know that you’re in safe hands. They will take you through all the details of what you can expect from your first visit, so there won’t be any surprises.
Our veterinarians and vet nurses are trained in low-stress puppy handling techniques. This means that your puppy’s first experience at the vet will be a positive one, and they’ll come to trust our team to take good care of them. Our vet team will personalise their advice to you and your puppy’s needs, so you’ll be ready help them every step of the way.
At Gordon Vet Hospital we will provide your puppy with a comprehensive ‘nose-to tail’ examination. During your visit, one of our vets will look at and discuss:
- Vaccinations (ensuring your puppy is up to date)
- Weight (this is recorded at every visit so that we can see whether your pet’s weight is steady)
- Skin and coat (general condition and lumps and bumps)
- Ears (looking for signs of infection)
- Eyes (general exam, discuss anything owner has observed)
- Dental Examination (looking for signs of dental disease, bad breath)
- Heart /Lungs (using a stethoscope)
- Musculoskeletal exam (muscle and bones)
- Abdominal palpation (feel their abdomen)
- Parasite control
- Internal Parasites (check that your pet is on suitable heartworm and intestinal worm prevention)
- External Parasites (check that your pet is on suitable flea and tick prevention)
