Joey’s Pet of the Week
By Scott Lackenby | Dated October 17, 2013
Hey everyone! How are you all? I’ve had such a great birthday week! It was so good having a day that was all about me. That pesky diet that I have been on was forgotten for the day, with there being extra treats and extra milk for morning tea from Renee at the grooming salon next door. I was a little upset that no one gave me any of the handsome looking chocolate Joey cake, but they redeemed themselves by giving me some Fancy Feast for afternoon tea instead.
We’ve admitted a lot of animals with tick paralysis since I spoke to you last. They are such awful things the ticks, so I make sure that I have a Frontline spray every 3weeks to help keep me protected. I hate having it done, but I’d rather that than get a tick. We recommend dogs have either Advantix or Frontline top spot every 2weeks during tick season, and that cats either have a Frontline spray every 3weeks or a Frontline top spot every 2weeks. Daily tick searches of your 4legged friend are also highly recommended.
Feel free to come in and have a chat to one of my lovely Nurses if you have any questions about prevention and searching for ticks.
My pet of the week is the handsome Milo, a 10month old Domestic Long Hair kitty who fell off a 5th floor balcony onto tiles and proved that not all cats land on their feet! Milo was a little sore and sorry for himself when he came in, which I can completely understand after a fall like that! He was still in good spirits though, and politely declined Dr David Owen’s offer of having an IV catheter put in so he could have his pain medications given that way. Dr David Loneragan took some Xrays the next morning, and apart from a few fractured ribs, Milo had managed to avoid any serious damage. We are keeping him in for a few days of observation just to be on the safe side, but it looks like he will be able to go home over the weekend!
Be sure to check out my Facebook photo album for pics of the handsome Milo. I have also put up some pictures of the tick cases we have in at the moment.
I’m a little tired after a big birthday week, and the weather is too terrible for me to play outside, so I’m going to have a nap. Enjoy the rest of the week and I’ll catch you all next week. Meows for now, love Joey xoxo
