Hey gang! How are you all? How has your week been? Done anything exciting? Did you see the amazing news that I’m going to be a Funcle, (Fur Uncle), again?!? It’s super exciting and I’m very happy for Dr Gen. She starts her maternity leave at the end of the month, so if your pet wants to see her before she leaves, be sure to call to make an appointment. The ticks are still being annoying. They are such vile little critters. I have been very good at having my tick spray every 3weeks. I don’t like having it done, but I really don’t want to get a tick. I sound like a broken record, but PLEASE make sure you are applying appropriate tick prevention to your 4legged friend. There are a few new options on the market for dogs and you have to be careful about what you apply to us felines, some of the tick preventatives are actually deadly to us, so for advice on the right product for you and your pet.
My star this week is the extremely cute Otto, a 9month old Dalmation from Pymble. Otto’s Dad brought him in after noticing some unusual swelling on his face.
It happened very quickly, and during the examination with Dr John Morgan, Otto’s swelling spread from his left to cheek to all over his head and down his chest! Otto was clearly having an allergic reaction, and it was most likely from an inset bite. Otto’s Dad did mention that he had pulled off a small tick off Otto earlier in the day. We can’t be 100% sure, but Dr John was suspicious that Otto was having a reaction to the tick bite! Luckily he wasn’t suffering any paralysis symptoms, so Dr John gave Otto an injection of an anti inflammatory and an anti histamine. Otto’s Dad was happy to take him home to monitor him for the development of any more symptoms, and luckily there weren’t any! Otto’s dad has been very good at giving Otto regular tick prevention, which is a great thing. It just unfortunately won’t protect Otto from allergic reactions!Well, better go. I’m a busy clinic cat today!! Enjoy the rest of your week and I’ll catch you all soon. Meows for now, love Joey xoxo
