Hey everyone! I know what you’re thinking. It’s Friday and I usually post Pet of the Week on Thursdays. But the day got away from me yesterday and it was dinner/bed time before I knew it!
I was pleased to have Nurse Layne back this week, although I’m not sure how happy she is to be back to winter weather! Let’s see how long it takes for her tan to fade….. Nurse Portia jetted off to the UK at the start of the week to finish of her Exciting opportunity to work on her PhD at Oxford Uni. She has promised to send me a postcard, which makes me happy. How amazing were to pics of the Dr Lackenby’s and their gorgeous girls?!? It looks like they are having an great time.
My star this week is the handsome Jasper, a 9year old Pud cross. Jasper came in to see Dr Genevieve Zhang about a lump that had gotten significantly bigger since we looked at it last year.
The lump, which was very close to some delicate boy bits, was biopsied last year and found to be a Lipoma, or a fatty lump. These aren’t nasty lumps, and given that it wasn’t bothering Jasper and removing it was going to prove to be tricky given it’s location, it was decided to leave it be.
But the lump grew considerably and was now causing Jasper problems. To remove it completely meant that Jasper would need to be referred for to a specialist surgeon.
The lump was very close to his penis and there was a potential for that to be damaged with the lump removal. This would be a big surgery, and Jasper is a rescue dog so may be older that his estimated 9years, so Dr Gen and Jasper’s mum decided the best option was to debulk as much of the mass as possible to make life as comfortable as possible for the handsome little man. When
Dr Gen got started, it turned out it was actually 3 lumps! There were two smaller lumps VERY close to his boy bits. Dr Gen was able to debulk a fair bit of the lump and Jasper is feeling much better. He is lucky as his Mum is a human Nurse, so he’s been getting round the clock nursing care at home!Well, better go. I still have a few jobs that I didn’t get to finish yesterday, so I better go and do them. Have a great weekend and I’ll catch you all next week. Meows for now, love Joey xoxo
