Hey everyone! Sorry for the delay in posting, the weather has been so amazingly nice that I got carried away enjoying it and I forgot to post this. But better late than never, right?!?And given that today is Caturday, this is an extra special Pet of the Week Post. My star this week is the gorgeous Miss Bella, a 15month old Ragdoll. Bella’s humans are good friends of the Lackenby’s. Dr Sam Lackenby popped in to visit Bella and her family and to give Bella her vaccination. When Dr Sam was examining Bella, she discovered that she wouldn’t be able to vaccinate Bella as she was pregnant! Bella had had date with a stray Tom Cat and was now in the family way. Bella’s family weren’t sure when this date had taken place, so weren’t sure when the kittens were due. Dr Sam advised Bella’s owners to bring her in to the hospital for an Xray so we could see how many kittens she was having and how big they were. When Dr Sam did the Xray, she could see at least 6 kittens and they looked like they were due in about 10-14days! This posed a bit of a problem for Bella’s owners as they had booked a holiday and were leaving in just under 3weeks. Bella would need to board with us to have her kittens.
Naturally we were all pretty excited to be around when the babies arrived. So Bella came in to start her Boarding on the Sunday, which was a few days before her estimated due date. By Thursday there were still no kittens but her cervix had soften and there was a kitten in her pelvic canal. Dr Sam decided the safest option was for Bella to have a cesarian.
Dr Sam safely delivered 6 gorgeous kittens and Bella recovered extremely well from her surgery, which also included her being desexed. Bella was feeding her kittens within a few hours of waking up. Bella got a minor infection around her surgery site, which isn’t uncommon when you have kittens needing and feeding right near the wound. Bella did a great job with the kittens, although she did need a few time outs, which al new mothers can sympathise with!! After 10days, everyone went home happy and healthy. Hopefully they come back and see me soon, I love being a Funcle, (fur Uncle)!!
Well, better go. The weather is amazing again and I’m keen to get out and enjoy it! Have a fantastic long weekend and I’ll catch you all soon. Meows for now, love Joey xox
