Joey’s Pet of the Week

Hey everyone!! I hate to start off by whinging, but I was so cranky about the weather at the start of the week!! I know we needed the rain and it has helped with the bushfire efforts, but it’s no fun for me. I couldn’t go outside but I didn’t want to be inside. It was a tough few days for Nurse Layne, Nurse Emma and Nurse Katrina who had to put up with me asking to go outside every few minutes only to turn around and want to come back in. Needless to say everyone is much happier now that the weather is better and I can go outside to do secret cat things again. Although I have been choosing to spend a significant amount of time inside this week even with the better weather. We have put the stray kittens, Hagrid, Dobby and Luna, in one of the consult rooms so everyone can fall in love with them. I LOVE when we have kittens in, so I am spending a bunch of my time in with them. I play with them, and wash them, and sometimes I just sit on top of the cage and keep an eye on them. The Nurses have nicknamed me Uncle Joey because I am just so good with them. The only downside of them is that they are now eating really well, so there is rarely anything left for me to clean up. I guess it’s better for my diet that I’m not eating a heap of kitten food. Putting them on display has certainly worked for Dobby, our little grey boy, who has been adopted by the family who took Gypsy, AKA Delilah, who was one of our strays from earlier in the year. Gypsy was in to be speyed last week and her family just fell in love with the fluffy little man and they will take him home in a week or so. Hagrid and Luna are still waiting for their fur-ever home, so come in and meet the little monkeys. Hagrid’s adoption fee is $250 and Luna’s is $350. The adoption fee covers their first two vaccinations, microchipping and desexing. If you or someone you know has room in their heart for a new feline friend, be sure to send them our way.

Nurse Katrina and I have one of my favourite jobs in the whole world to do today, plant new plants in the pots in the car park. I love anything to do with the plants in the carpark. I’m particularly good at watering them. I love to chase the water that drains out of the bottom of the pots. This time we will be planting petunia’s. In other exciting news, my professional shots from Uber Photography arrived! Now I may be a little biased, but I think they are the most amazing pictures ever!! Dr David put three of the four pictures up in Reception and the fourth will likely go up in Room 1. I was really excited when Katie from Uber Photography dropped them off. I checked them all out. Everyone here has a favourite, so we are in the process of organising a competition so you all can vote for your favourite and there will be a great prize. Instead of a Pet of the Week this week, I’m doing a Vet of the Week so I can introduce you to Dr Matt Leong, who is locuming with us for a few weeks. Both Dr Scott and Dr Sam are away enjoying a family holiday with their girls in Bali, so Dr Matt is here to help us out. Dr Matt went through Uni with Dr John, and they have spent the week so far giving us heaps of dirt on each other from their Uni days! Dr Matt worked at Glenorie Vets in a mixed practice between 2008 & 2012 and has been locuming in the UK at small animal practices in London, Suffolk and Norfolk since then.  It has been a bit of a baptism of fire for Dr Matt. He started with us on Monday and this week has been the worst week we have had so far with tick cases. We have sadly lost two tick cases this week and as I am writing this, Dr Matt and Dr John are intubating a case that is having some quite severe breathing difficulties. I say this every week, but PLEASE make sure you are applying tick prevention to your 4legged friends and that you are doing daily tick searches. If you find a tick or are concerned your friend may have one, call us for advice. The sooner treatment is initiated, the better the chance of survival.
