Apollo the Staffy gets plastic surgery!

We perform a full range of surgery at Gordon Vet Hospital and recently we got to help Apollo the gorgeous Staffy with an eye issue called “entropion”. This is where the eyelid (in this case Apollo’s lower eyelid) rolls in a way that causes the hairs to rub against the eye and cause significant irritation.
Apollo presented for squinting and an eye discharge that didn’t seem to be going away. We immediately identified the issue and booked him in for a repair under anaesthesia.
Apollo loves toys so we made sure they were readily available when he needed eye surgery.
Normally, when we identify this disease in younger dogs we are able to correct the problem by removing a small amount of skin near the folded eyelid to cause it to stay away from the eye. Given Apollo was so young and growing so quickly we had to use a more temporary fix where we used a series of sutures to pull the eyelid downwards and reduce the fold. In most cases we still have to perform the surgery once adulthood is reached but, so far, this has not been the case! Apollo is doing very well and charming everyone he meets at Gordon Vet Hospital and outside!
Apollo recovered well from surgery and we left the sutures in for around 3 weeks after.
