Nurse Alex becomes Vet Alex!

By John Morgan | Dated November 9, 2016

Alex has been a Vet Nurse on weekends and during holidays at Gordon Vet Hospital since 2008. In this time she has had an amazing result in her HSC that allowed her to start and finish Veterinary Science. She has been a welcome addition to the team at Gordon and we will miss her dearly as she moves on to the next stage in her career! Read below to find more about her adventures in final year university.

It feels very strange that after eight years at Gordon Vet Hospital I am leaving. I have just completed my vet degree and I couldn’t have done it without Gordon by my side. My nursing and reception experience at Gordon Vet has been invaluable to my skill set as a vet student, and I assume as a soon-to-be vet!

This last year of vet school has been the most exciting by far. It is an internship or placement year, where I worked at many different clinics in order to gain vet experience and practice. Of course, I made sure to continue my nursing job at GVH throughout the year! I got to see a lot as a final year vet student at a range of clinics, including a very interesting placement in Cambodia working with cattle and poultry.

Only last week I finished up my final placement at Dungog Vet Hospital (working along another former Gordon Vet nurse – Steph!) in the upper Hunter region, and it was a wonderful clinic to finish at, with such a wide range of animals. Despite being sad to leave Gordon Vet Hospital, I am very excited to be starting my first vet job in the New Year at Glenorie Vet Clinic!

After all these years of hard work, both at vet school and at Gordon, I am looking forward to finally being a veterinarian. Glenorie Vet Clinic seems to be a good pick, with a close knit supportive team (like Gordon) and a little bit of a mix, with some large animal work. So with this year and a rewarding degree coming to an end, and with an exciting new career ahead of me, I wanted to thank Gordon Vet for preparing me for my future as a veterinarian.

Absolutely love the service here. I switched from other Vets to this Vet as the staff here are quite attentive and really care about your furry baby! I have basically seen most of the Dr's here and all of them so far have been fantastic, friendly and fun to speak with! Easy to locate and enough parking available! 5 Stars indeed!

We found a stray, agitated dog in front of our house last night. We phoned but got no help from the Council ranger who gave two options: tie him up in front yard overnight or "let him loose, he'll find his own way home" :( So we phoned Gordon Vet: they stayed open a few minutes so we could run him up and he could have a bed and dinner. Thank you Gordon Vet Hospital, hope he gets home soon!!! :)
