From Scrapes To Stitches!

Pumpkin jack came into gordon vet for a swollen wound his owners found on his neck. On examination it was determined that he had an abscess likely due to a cat fight wound.
An abscess is a collection of puss that occurs when bacteria enters the skin – usually via a bite or scratch in cats! The body then tries to contain the infection from spreading by forming a capsule of tissue causing a painful, swollen lump.
In order to relieve pain and pressure and allow the infection to heal abscesses often need to be drained and the wound flushed, which is what we did for pumpkin jack!
Pumpkin Jack was placed under general anaesthetic and his abscess was flushed to clear the infection and a drain was placed into the wound to prevent the wound from sealing over too quickly, which can trap any remaining bacteria and allow the abscess to reform. Pumpkin jack was also given antibiotics to fight any remaining infection and pain relief to keep him comfortable during recovery.

Pumpkin jack was such a good boy and very brave throughout his procedure. We’re wishing him a smooth and speedy recovery.
