Bee careful Buffy!
By Zoe Levesque | Dated May 5, 2026
Buffy is a 9-year-old Mini Groodle who was playing in his backyard when he suddenly vomited and started limping. His owners, on inspecting the area, found a dead bee on the floor. They presented Buffy to Dr Kay straight away for treatment.

Bee stings in dogs and cats can cause mild to moderate reactions such as hives, limping, and facial swelling, but can also cause severe anaphylaxis reactions, which present as acute vomiting, collapse and trouble breathing. Dr Kay was able to remove the bee’s stinger from Buffy’s left front paw (see photo) and provided a strong antihistamine injection to prevent any further reaction. Luckily for Buffy, he responded well to the antihistamine and has learned his lesson about playing with bugs!
